Entitled Neighbours, the project takes the form of a silent walking performance that invites participants to explore the Fujacal neighbourhood in a sensitive, unhurried and collective way. Created by choreographers Andrea Sonnberger (Austria) and Gustavo Ciríaco (Brazil), the action begins with a simple gesture: walking in silence with a chair strapped to one's back. Throughout the route — which crosses key locations and atmospheres of the neighbourhood — the audience is invited to pause, sit, and observe, engaging in a deep listening of the urban space, its practices and rhythms.
Inspired by the plaques tournantes of the Situationists — transitional places where different urban atmospheres meet — Neighbours seeks to make visible the links and structures that shape the shared life of a neighbourhood. Here, the neighbourhood is seen as a living organism, shaped by gestures, occupations and relationships that weave through everyday life.
The project was originally created during a residency at La Casa Encendida in Madrid, and has since been adapted to different urban contexts such as Lisbon and Jerusalem. In Braga, the performance will culminate in a collective moment of sharing, reinforcing the idea of community as a practice in constant evolution.
